Streets as Shared Spaces: Kempsey laneways

Savages-Lane-2023-3.jpg

Summary

The Streets as Shared Spaces project will revitalise two laneways in Kempsey's CBD: Elringtons Lane (beside Coles) and Savages Lane.

Kempsey Shire Council has received grant funding to make improvements such as:

  • renewed pavement surfaces
  • water mains renewal
  • public artworks
  • extra lighting
  • upgraded CCTV.

The laneways will became safer, more enjoyable spaces for the community to use. As the improvements will encourage people to linger longer in these areas, the project will also support local businesses.

Timeframe

This project is complete with Elringtons and Savages laneways revamped as of April 2023.

Funding

Council has received a Streets as Shared Spaces grant of $500,000 from the NSW Government. This will fund the laneway improvements listed above except for the water mains renewal, which Council is funding.

A huge thank you to all the artists, organisations, businesses and volunteers who made this project and the Macleay Youth Laneway Festival such a great success.
